The invention of Bruges. City of Delacenserie
10.09.2009 > 25.04.2010 | Bruggemuseum - Gruuthuse, Dijver 17, Brugge
www.deuitvindingvanbrugge.be | map

Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. In 2000 the Unesco quite rightly listed the entire historic inner city as a World Heritage site. Between the meandering alleys and romantic canals you can readily imagine being in the Middle Ages, and you will unavoidably fall under the spell of the city’s elegant mystery. Although the inner city of Bruges holds countless mediaeval memories, the world famous townscape is mainly a late 19th century creation. With this unique exhibition the Bruggemuseum-Gruuthuse offers an elucidation for this 19th century patina of the city for the very first time. Discover the true face of Bruges and its brilliant inventor Louis Delacenserie and view the picturesque city from a different angle!Hundred years after his death we can place the realisations of Delacenserie in their right perspective without avoiding the still very lively discussion on architecture in Bruges.
